Overview:

The client is a prestigious educational institution in India, operating under the umbrella of a renowned educational trust founded in 1938. The institution is recognized globally for its high academic standards and has earned the ‘Triple Crown’ accreditation—AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS—placing it among the top 1% of business schools worldwide. Designated as a Category-I institution by AICTE, it caters to a broad spectrum of learners through its advanced management programmes.

The facility in focus was the student hostel—a critical extension of the academic ecosystem where reliable internet connectivity is essential for students’ learning and development.

Requirements:

The client sought to enhance student experience by ensuring high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity in each hostel room. However, the older infrastructure of the hostel posed several challenges in laying the necessary network cables.

Challenges

  1. Old Construction Layout
    The building’s aged structure did not support traditional cable-laying methods like casing and capping. 
  2. Restricted Access to Hostel Rooms
    Due to students storing their belongings and locking rooms during the day, our team faced difficulty accessing rooms during regular working hours. 
  3. Infrastructure Limitations
    Multiple conduits or casings per floor were not feasible due to renovation restrictions. Additionally, drilling was limited on each floor to avoid structural damage.

Our Solution

To overcome these hurdles, we devised an innovative and efficient strategy:

  • Dual Shift Execution: Installation was carried out during both day and night shifts to utilize time effectively and work around room accessibility issues. 
  • Non-Invasive Installation: We used cable trays to establish clean and structured cable pathways, minimizing the need for excessive drilling or alterations to the old building. 
  • After-Hours Work: Key activities were scheduled during non-working hours, ensuring minimal disruption to students while allowing uninterrupted access to the rooms. 

Results

  • Enabled seamless Wi-Fi access in each hostel room. 
  • Delivered a cost-effective solution without compromising on quality or infrastructure integrity. 
  • Successfully implemented modern cabling solutions within the constraints of a legacy building.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful planning, flexible work scheduling, and modern infrastructure solutions can overcome the limitations of legacy construction.
