Data Center Cooling Upgrade for a Leading Financial Institution
Organization:
One of the Leading Financial Institution
Location:
Mumbai Port, India
Domain:
Banking & Financial Services
Solution Offered:
- Installation of 3 new PAC units
- Each unit having a cooling capacity of 8.5 tons
- Removal and dismantling of the existing old PAC units
- Installation and commissioning of the new cooling system
Project Background–
Data centers in financial organizations run critical applications and systems that must operate continuously without interruption. Servers, storage systems, and networking equipment generate significant heat during operations. To maintain proper performance and avoid system failures, it is important to maintain stable temperature and humidity inside the data center.
The client’s data center at Mumbai Port was operating with three old Precision Air Conditioning (PAC) units that had been in use for many years. Over time, these units became less efficient and required frequent maintenance. To improve cooling performance and ensure reliable operations, the client decided to upgrade the existing cooling system with a Vertiv precision cooling solution.
Objective –
The main objective of the project was to replace the existing PAC units with modern precision cooling systems while ensuring that the data center operations were not affected.
The key goals of the project –
- Replace the old PAC units with new and efficient cooling systems
- Maintain proper temperature for servers and networking equipment
- Improve reliability of the cooling infrastructure
- Complete the installation within the planned shutdown period
- Ensure smooth installation without impacting data center operations
Solution Implemented –
To meet the client’s requirement, a Vertiv precision cooling solution was implemented at the facility.
The project included:
- Installation of 3 new PAC units
- Each unit having a cooling capacity of 8.5 tons
- Removal and dismantling of the existing old PAC units
- Installation and commissioning of the new cooling system
The new Vertiv precision air conditioning units are specially designed for data center environments. They provide stable cooling, better airflow management, and improved reliability for critical IT infrastructure.
Project Execution –
Since the installation had to be completed during a planned shutdown period, proper planning and coordination were required to complete the work within the given timeline.
- Site Assessment
The team first conducted a detailed site inspection to understand the existing cooling setup, space availability, and power connections.
- Dismantling of Old PAC Units
The three existing PAC units were carefully dismantled and removed without affecting nearby equipment and infrastructure.
- Installation of New Cooling Units
Three 8.5-ton Vertiv PAC units were installed in the data center. The installation included mechanical setup, electrical connections, and system integration with the existing infrastructure.
- Testing and Commissioning
After installation, the cooling system was tested to ensure proper performance. Temperature stability, cooling efficiency, and system functionality were checked before final commissioning.
Implementation Timeline –
The entire project was completed within one month, as the installation had to be carried out during the shutdown window. The team successfully completed the dismantling, installation, testing, and commissioning within the planned schedule.
Results and Benefits –
The upgraded cooling system provided several operational benefits.
- Improved Cooling Performance
The new Vertiv PAC units provide stable and efficient cooling for servers and networking equipment. - Higher Reliability
Modern precision cooling systems reduce the chances of overheating and improve the overall reliability of the data center. - Better Airflow Management
The new cooling units help maintain proper airflow distribution across server racks. - Energy Efficiency
The upgraded system helps optimize power consumption while maintaining required temperature levels. - Future-Ready Infrastructure
The new cooling setup supports the growing IT infrastructure needs of the facility.
The successful upgrade of the cooling infrastructure at the Mumbai Port data center facility improved the reliability and efficiency of the client’s operations. By replacing the old PAC units with three 8.5-ton Vertiv precision cooling systems, the project ensured stable cooling conditions for critical IT equipment.
Completing the project within the one-month shutdown period highlights efficient planning, technical expertise, and smooth project execution. The upgraded cooling infrastructure now provides a reliable environment for the facility’s data center operations.
